How to Install Free Streaming Apps on Firestick (No Jailbreak Needed)

"Jailbreaking" a Firestick Just Means Sideloading

You'll see the word "jailbreak" thrown around for Fire TV devices, but there's nothing to jailbreak. A Firestick runs Fire OS, Amazon's Android-based system, and every Firestick has a setting that allows installing apps from outside the Amazon Appstore. Step 1: Allow Apps from Unknown Sources

  1. From the Firestick home screen, open Settings.
  2. Go to My Fire TV → Developer Options.
  3. Turn on Apps from Unknown Sources (on newer models this is "Install unknown apps").

The easiest way to get files onto a Firestick is the Downloader app by AFTVnews, available free in the Amazon Appstore. Open it and grant storage permission when asked.
