Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about downloading, installing, and using Lemon TV safely.
General Information
What exactly is Lemon TV?
+
Lemon TV is an open-source, multi-platform video application designed to offer an ad-free streaming and local playback experience. It is built as a highly optimized desktop client for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is also available as an Android application.
Is it really 100% free?
+
Yes. There are no premium tiers, no micro-transactions, and no hidden subscriptions. The project is completely open source and maintained by the community.
How does Lemon TV make money?
+
Currently, Lemon TV is purely a community-funded open-source project. We rely on voluntary donations and developer contributions to maintain servers and cover bandwidth costs.
Technical & Installation
What platforms are supported?
+
We support Windows (10/11), macOS (Apple Silicon & Intel), Linux (AppImage, deb, rpm), and Android (7.0+).
Do you have an iOS app?
+
Currently, we do not have an iOS app natively due to Apple's App Store restrictions regarding sideloading and the technologies our player relies upon.
Why did my antivirus flag the installer?
+
Because we distribute the app outside of traditional app stores, Microsoft SmartScreen or other antiviruses may flag it based on 'low reputation' (meaning it hasn't been downloaded millions of times yet). Our binaries are structurally vetted and the source code is public. You can click 'Run anyway'.
Will Lemon TV auto-update?
+
Yes, the desktop application incorporates a built-in updater. You will receive a prompt when a new version is released.
Features & Usage
Can I use my own subtitles?
+
Absolutely. You can inject external .srt or .vtt subtitle files easily via the player interface.
Is there offline mode?
+
Yes, Lemon TV provides local offline playback. You can download titles where permitted and watch them without an active internet connection.
Can I sync my watch history across devices?
+
We are currently operating locally. Your watch history stays on your device. Cross-device sync is on our long-term roadmap if we implement a secure, privacy-respecting sync backend.
Privacy & Open Source
Is Lemon TV Open Source?
+
Yes. The codebase is publicly auditable. We believe transparency is key to building trust in video platforms.
What data does the app collect?
+
Lemon TV does not track your viewing habits. There are zero tracking pixels or analytics integrations tracking what video you click. Basic telemetry (like crash reports) may be requested opt-in.
